Growing up in a farming family in rural Gujarat, I was surrounded by prickly pear cactus plants carrying thousands of fruits every season. Despite being highly nutritious, most of these fruits were left unharvested and eventually wasted. As a Food Technologist, I saw more than an overlooked fruit. I saw an opportunity to address one of India's most widespread nutritional challenges: low haemoglobin levels. This observation sparked a journey of over two years of research and product development, transforming prickly pear into a science-backed wellness drink designed to support haemoglobin improvement through better iron absorption. Today, Cactose not only supports consumer health but also creates an additional income opportunity for farmers by directly sourcing underutilized prickly pear from rural communities across Saurashtra.
